"The United Nations security council on Thursday night called for an immediate and durable ceasefire in Gaza leading to a full withdrawal of Israeli forces from the territory.
The council’s first resolution since the Israeli offensive began two weeks ago was carried 14-0, with Condoleezza Rice, US secretary of state, abstaining on behalf of her government.
